Just like with text tattoos, it's not such a great idea to get a lover's portrait tattooed on your body either. One thing you need to keep in mind about portrait tattoos is that they are different than regular tattoos.
Some tattoo artist do not do portrait tattoos because they feel that won't be able to capture the person you are wanting tattooed on you. So the important thing to know is to ask your tattoo artist if they have experience with portrait tattoos and if they are not comfortable doing one.

If they are not don't hesitate to ask them to recommend another artist in the studio that is more qualified for the job. Also don't hesitate for a second to let your tattoo artist know if you do not like what they have drawn up. Ask them to be involved in the process, nine times out of ten they want you to be. Always remember to voice your opinion of your tattoo design, if you don't like what they have come up with be honest and let them know. After all you are the one who has to live with the tattoo not them
